Hondo, is the main hall in Ichijo-Ji temple. You have to remove your shoes before entering the building.

You can light an incense and offer a prayer. Also "omamori" or good luck charm and being sold inside.

The calmness and the silence inside the building was infinite. A truly spiritual place.

It is really amazing to see how the structures here are built during those time without using a nail

Ichijo-Ji temple is the oldest temple in Japan. One of the 33 temples in the Kansai area and the 26th temple of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. It was established by the Emperor Kutoku's instruction in 650. The 843-year old pagoda was completed in 1171 and is a National treasure of Japan. You have to climb steep stone stairs from the entrance gate to see the Jogyodon hall. The pagoda is located along the stairs, so visitors can enjoy the beautiful appearance when they climb up and down and the Hondo is the main hall. Natural stones are used for the basic stones and built pillars on them under the Hondo hall. Taking a look carefully, the ground near the walls are risen.
