Fukuyama Castle Park

A castle and three museums near Fukuyama Station

The castle is a reconstruction of the original, built in 1622.

The top of the tower offers a great panoramic view of the city. It is definitely worth a visit.

There are some objects displayed inside the castle. However, none of the information includes English translations.

The castle used to be one of the greatest in the Edo period, but most of its structures were destroyed during World War II bombings.

Where the castle fortresses used to stand, now there are three museums and various sculptures instead.

The most interesting visit here is Fukuyama's Museum of Art.

The museum displays a selection of works from modernist and contemporary local and European artists.

The museum has two floors which divide the permanent to the temporary exhibitions.

The entrance fee for the permanent exhibition (in the upper floor) is 250 yen.

The building also includes a lobby with comfortable couches for anyone who wants to take a break and relax.

The Prefectural Museum of History shows the development of Hiroshima prefecture and the fare is 290 yen.

The park is located across the road from Fukuyama Station, which makes it very convenient for tourists.

Fifteen minutes by Shinkansen from Hiroshima Station, Fukuyama, the second largest city in the Hiroshima prefecture, is best known for Fukuyama-jo (a castle that dates back to 1619) and the park in which it is situated; the Fukuyama-jo Park. Both tourist attractions are located on a hill in the city center. The top of the castle tower offers an astounding bird eye view of the municipality. Fukuyama-jo Park is large enough to hold a total of three different museums, in addition to the one displayed inside the castle; the Fukuyama Museum of Art, the Human Rights and Peace Museum and the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of History, all of this just a short walk from Fukuyama Station.
